Secure Shredding Services - frequently asked questions:Q Why would I need secure shredding services? A: There is a legal responsibility under the Data Protection Act 1998 which if ignored may result in prosecution and heavy fines irrespective of the size of business or organisation. The majority of us want to know that our confidential information cannot be obtained by fraudsters and other criminals and our business information is not obtained by any of our competitors for their gain. Q: What kind of document/information can be sent for shredding? A: Any type of document on paper, plastics and most other media including x-rays, microfiche/film, binders, computer disks, cartridges, videotapes, CDs and DVD's. We issue a “Certificate of Destruction” verifying that materials have been totally destroyed. Q: What type of documents should be shredded? A: All documentation containing company names, individual names, personal and business information. The best rule of thumb is; destroy all waste, that way nothing gets through the net! Q: Do you operate a collection/delivery service to your client's premises and are there any distance limits? A: We destroy documents for clients usually within a 50 mile radius of Stoke-on-Trent. However, there is no limit where we will collect documents for destruction, if viable for the client and us! Q: Are there any size or weight limits to documents that can be destroyed? A: None at all Q: What happens to the waste material after the destruction process? A: It is mostly pulped by a commercial paper converter and re-cycled, usually into paper towels. Q: Can documents be destroyed at a client's premises? A: No, the machinery capable of being built into a truck is not sophisticated enough and the accuracy of destruction cannot be guaranteed or monitored under controlled conditions. Q: Are there any guidelines for customers to inform them when its acceptable for documents to be destroyed? A: There are laws regarding documents retention, if you are not certain, ask your solicitor or accountant for advice. We hope you have found the answers above helpful and if you like to find out more about our secure document shredding services, please contact us for more information. |
